This is a piece I put together for SCRAP’s “30 for $30” holiday art show. The objective was to create artwork of re-used materials — and I went a bit crazy with it. I lucked out on the frame, which came gold and distressed. I used a vintage paper placemat as a backdrop, and created a calavera paperdoll from postcards and maps. Ticket stubs from Portland’s Egyptian theatre were used in place of a frame mat, and I added fortunes that read, “Now is the time to try something new,” “You will be fortunate in everything you put your hands on,” and “You should be able to undertake and complete anything you desire.” I sealed the piece with Diamond glaze and adorned it with sequins and charms.
